Trades Marketing in Birmingham

Half of Birmingham's homes were already standing by 1965, the city's median build year in recent Census estimates, so repair and replacement work never dries up. We market electricians, plumbers, roofers, remodelers and heating and cooling companies across Jefferson and Shelby counties with local search pages, seasonal ads and follow-up that locks in the estimate before a homeowner dials the next contractor.

Birmingham context

Old houses, hot summers, stormy springs

A housing stock due for work

Of Birmingham's 109,349 housing units, 46,770 went up before 1960 and just 844 were built in 2020 or later, in Census survey data covering 2020 through 2024. Census QuickFacts records 2,391 residential building permits for Jefferson County in 2025. That mix produces constant demand for roof replacements, duct and electrical upgrades, kitchen and bath remodels and foundation repairs.

Competition by trade

Jefferson County counted 220 plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors, 158 residential remodelers, 55 single-family home builders and 39 roofing companies in 2023, while Shelby County added 95 plumbing and HVAC firms, 96 remodelers and 20 roofers. Most run lean: in Jefferson, 111 of the 220 plumbing and HVAC companies employed fewer than five people.

Licenses customers can check

The Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board requires a state license for residential jobs costing more than $10,000 and, since January 2019, a dedicated roofers license once a roofing job tops $2,500. HVAC contractors are certified by their own state board, and plumbers by the Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board, whose office is in Homewood. Showing the right credential earns trust quickly.

Calls follow the weather

01

Spring storm surges

The National Weather Service names March and April as Birmingham's stormiest stretch. Roofers and restoration crews need ads, landing pages and extra phone coverage ready before the first warning, not after it.

02

Long, humid summers

Midsummer afternoons here level off in the low 90s under persistent humidity, per NWS climatology. Air conditioning breakdowns bunch up in those weeks, so cooling campaigns ramp up in late spring.

03

Referrals still matter

Neighbors in Crestwood, Homewood and Trussville ask each other who did their roof. Follow-up that requests a review from every customer and makes referrals easy keeps that word of mouth visible online.

Areas we serve

Service-area campaigns can cover the neighborhoods and suburbs your crews drive to, including:

  • Downtown Birmingham
  • Southside
  • Avondale
  • Homewood
  • Mountain Brook
  • Vestavia Hills

Questions and answers

To do the work, usually yes: residential jobs over $10,000 need a Home Builders Licensure Board license, and roofing over $2,500 needs the board's roofers license plus a $10,000 bond. A city business license does not replace either one. Your license belongs on the site, and every ad should stay inside its scope.

Ahead of demand. Roofing and restoration budgets should be ready by late winter for the March and April storm peak, and cooling campaigns should climb in May before the long summer. Fall suits maintenance plan sales and remodel scheduling.

HVAC, roofing, remodeling and general contracting each have their own Birmingham page with trade-specific facts and licensing details. This page covers what they share: storm seasons, older homes and a crowded local field.
