Restaurant Marketing in San Jose

Every San Jose restaurant posts the result of its latest County inspection as a green, yellow or red placard, and diners can look up its 0 to 100 compliance score online. That is one of many things a guest checks before choosing. Our role is to help San Jose restaurants seat more covers and sell more takeout and catering through menu-first websites, Google and map visibility, social campaigns around downtown events, and guest lists that bring people back.

San Jose context

What diners check first

Placards and scores

Santa Clara County launched its restaurant placard and scoring system on October 1, 2014, modeled on Sacramento County's green, yellow and red approach. It covers every facility that prepares food, from fast food counters and bakeries to delis and corporate cafeterias. The placard color reflects the number of major violations found, and the online score measures overall conformity with the California Retail Food Code, with 100 being perfect.

Patios and parking lots

San Jose began a Sidewalk Cafe Pilot Program downtown in 2005 and approved its Al Fresco Initiative in 2020 to speed outdoor dining permits. A 2024 update to the Municipal Code now governs converting private parking lots to outdoor dining, with a Special Use Permit required when a project cannot meet the administrative permit conditions. With August averaging 0.05 inches of rain, patio season runs long and deserves its own promotion.

A big, staffed industry

Santa Clara County had 1,703 full-service restaurants employing 31,792 people in 2023, and 411 of them had fewer than five employees. Leisure and hospitality jobs in the metro numbered about 105,200 in September 2026, per preliminary BLS data. A small independent kitchen competes with chains on the same search results page, where photos, hours and reviews often settle the choice.

Filling San Jose tables

01

Menus Google can read

Post the menu as text, not only a PDF, with dish names, dietary tags and ordering links, so search engines and hungry visitors can both find what they want.

02

Patio season promotion

Long dry summers favor outdoor seating. Photos of the patio, notes on shade and heaters, and a reservation link tagged for outdoor tables help fill those seats.

03

A guest list you own

Delivery apps keep the customer data. Collect emails and phone numbers with consent through your own site and Wi-Fi so promotions reach guests directly.

Questions and answers

A green placard means the restaurant passed its most recent County inspection, and showing it in a photo or post is a fair signal of care. Keep any claim accurate and current, since the County publishes scores online and a new inspection can change the color.

Often, with the right permit. Since the City's 2024 Municipal Code update, converting private parking to outdoor dining follows a set permit process, and projects that cannot meet the administrative conditions apply for a Special Use Permit. Once approved, the patio deserves photos, a menu note and a reservation option of its own.

A complete and accurate business profile: correct hours, categories, a text menu, current photos and a website link. Reviews requested from every guest, replies to each one, and fresh posts about specials and events all help. Matching name, address and phone details across directories matter too.
